Project Description
The 55 Bloor Street revitalization consisted of a new exterior retail façade that created an additional 38,000 sq’ of retail space on Bloor Street along with major upgrades to the ground and second floors. Style mattered, as this is a flagship location with high visibility in an upscale shopping/residential district.
Background
The construction team was tasked with phasing the build so the mall area could remain operational during construction. This proved to be incredibly challenging, but through weekly schedule and phasing meetings, the team was able to meet the goal and keep all active tenants satisfied.
Project Scope
The mechanical scope included: New air handling units, fancoils, fire protection, drainage, and ductwork for the retail addition, upgrades to the chilled water plant, and building automation .
Outcome/Results
Onyx’s experience with major mall renovations was key as our team had a keen understanding of how to phase the major mechanical systems to keep the public areas accessible and retail stores open. Our successful renovation of Sherway Gardens Mall North Expansion and 4 significant spaces at Eaton Centre made Onyx a perfect fit for this challenging job with a modern look and feel.
